The human body is comprised of thousands of intricate networks and passages (called Meridians) that connect the body’s network of systems to each other and the brain. A complicated system such as this requires maintenance to keep the flow of communication running smoothly. Since the body is comprised mostly of water, Mississauga Acupuncture Clinic uses the metal of the needles to create conductivity in the body to clear out and reconnect these passageways.  Learn More

Diseases that Acupuncture can Help

Muscles, Bones and Joints

The muscles, bones, and joints are known collectively as the musculo-skeletal system. A common result of disease or damage to this system is pain. Rheumatism and arthritis are sometimes used to describe this type of pain.

Nervous System

A stroke is caused by a disturbance of the blood supply to the brain. Blood flow to the brain can be interrupted if the blood vessels become blocked or bleed. This results in a deficient blood supply to the brain tissues that can be caused by: raised blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, and severe head injury.

Digestive System

Acupuncture is the Chinese care of choice for stomach ulcers. Although it has been noted that stomach ulcers do heal after acupuncture care , both types of stomach ulcers do heal spontaneously, thus convoluting the actual success rate of acupuncture.

Respiratory System

According to some Western research data, acupuncture causes the contracted muscular walls to dilate although the exact mechanism that facilitates this remains unknown. A recent Chinese medical trial claims that 70% of asthmatic patients obtained beneficial effects from acupuncture and moxibustion (approximately ten sessions) annually.

Heart and Blood Vessels

While acupuncture is not regularly utilized as a care for diseases of the circulatory system in the West, it is a common and acceptable form of Chinese care. Animal experiments conducted in China illustrate that acupuncture care do affect the circulatory system.

Addiction and Obesity

A significant number of Western practitioners are utilizing a variety of acupuncture techniques as care for obesity, smoking, and hard drug addiction. Some physiological and clinical evidence suggests that acupuncture is an effective care for these issues. Read more

During Pregnancy and Its benefits

Acupuncture during pregnancy does not only benefit the mother, but the baby as well. This is because most organ systems of an infant develop at certain stages in the pregnancy and such development can be affected by maternal toxins that can result to a sickly baby.

Pregnancy Induction

More and more women these days seek for alternative medicine and complementary therapies during pregnancy to stay away from the harmful effects of chemical medications.  Acupuncture was first used for induction of labor way back in the Jin Dynasty during AD 265-420 and through the Tang Dynasty during the 5th century until the Song Dynasty in 1279.

Frequently Asked Questions

When considering acupuncture, our patients often tell us they were most apprehensive about the acupuncture needles. They were reassured to learn that the needles are FDA approved as medical devices and are individually wrapped, totally sterile, and disposed of after one use. Those patients also discovered that the care was virtually painless because acupuncture needles are extremely thin and flexible — approximately 16 acupuncture needles together equal the thickness of a pin. Most importantly, our patients come to realize that the needles are simply tools to help them move through the process of healing and balance.

Of course, it’s normal to feel somewhat nervous before your first session. However afterwards you should feel very comfortable. Of the years our patients have felt many things ranging from energy moving to total relaxation at the end of a care.

People often feel rejuvenated and relaxed with an alleviation of their symptoms. Other bodily functions that weren’t part of your chief complaint may also improve. For example, you might find that you are sleeping better, and your anxiety is reduced or that your digestion is improved or that your stress level is lowered. Returning to work after a care is not a problem.

Like everything, it depends on what the problem is and how long you have been dealing with it. The general rule is that the longer you’ve been out of balance, the longer it takes to resolve. But in practice, individuals respond at different rates. You will know quite soon how you’re responding to acupuncture.

Acupuncture is wonderful for general well-being, stress-reduction and boosting immunity. Acupuncture can help strengthen you again.
